Hand forged textures highlight form and shadow in these contemporary silver wave earrings. A swirl of forged sterling silver waves is suspended from sterling silver earwires. A lightweight froth of hand forged textures for any occasion.
Unique silver wave earrings inspired by the textures of barnacles, Barnacle Wave fuses edgy texture and classic elegance. Hand forged, fused and patinated, these contemporary ocean earrings are one of a kind, reflecting light accented with a beautiful black patina.
These one of a kind earrings measure 1.3 inches in length.
Note from the Artist
I made these silver wave earrings entirely by hand. I’m fascinated with the textures created by combining fusing, granulation, and forging. Each piece on my workbench is special, but with Barnacle Wave I was inspired by the delicious natural textures of barnacles.
Stubbornly clinging to every available surface, barnacles are the ocean at it’s most tenacious. Shimmering textures in smoothly rounded fused droplets grace curvilinear hand forged wave forms. Elegant lines of patina darkened forged silver draw the eye, culminating in a whirlpool of hammered texture that elegantly reflects the light. This one of a kind ocean necklace ripples and flows with every movement, casting and reflecting light and shadow.
Probably one of the most rewarding things to create is handmade texture- and the varying textures in Barnacle Wave is no exception. I always approach the creation of texture a bit like a mad scientist. The alchemy of fire, force, and metal is unpredictable and enthralling. Each hammer blow shapes the metal in a new direction. Each pass of a torch runs the risk of artistic implosion, where the metal could sink into a formless mass once more. The thrill of creation is echoed in the rush of artistic freedom with every moment, until the final texture is achieved.
I hope you enjoy Barnacle Wave.
