Watercast

Product Description

A contemporary labradorite and pearl necklace featuring unique water cast silver. Embossed and forged sterling frames an antique pearl and designer labradorite gemstone in this unusual art necklace.

Rustic, detailed, and unique, Watercast is a one of a kind original that celebrates the subtle forces of water. Hand forged in sterling silver, this labradorite and pearl necklace features unique riveted water castings, accented with a hand forged sterling silver chain.

Featuring an adjustable hand forged chain, this necklace is a unique piece of sculptural art jewelry.

Note from the Artist

I made this labradorite and pearl necklace entirely by hand. I’m fascinated with the textures I can create combining fusing, forging, and casting. Each piece on my workbench is special, but with Watercast I was inspired by the ever changing fluid nature of water.

Water casting is an inherently serendipitous process- no two casts ever come out the same.  Pouring molten silver into water creates amazingly diverse forms through the alchemy of quenching and production of steam. One of the more exciting processes in my studio, water casting is also one of the most fun. Each pour could create delicate silver bubbles, or dappled puddles- and anything in between. For this piece, I framed a beautiful antique pearl in a large water casting, and created a bubble detail bezel to frame the unique designer labradorite, making this necklace a true statement piece.

Probably one of my favorite things to create is handmade chain- and the chain in Watercast is no exception. For this art necklace, I decided it needed even more visual texture to balance the embossed silver panel and gemstones. Each link is hand forged and fused, then twisted and warped into shape. No two like are identical, of course, right down to the hand forged incorporated clasp.

I hope you enjoy Watercast.
